For the 28-year-old Argentine, this is only the second time in his career that he has managed to come back from a 0:2 set score in a Grand Slam tournament.
“In the first two sets, he played much better than me. I didn’t feel comfortable, but after erasing the break deficit in the third set, everything changed. Taylor is a top-level opponent who reached the final in this tournament. Winning here, playing for the first time at Arthur Ashe Stadium, is simply fantastic,” he said.
F. Cerundolo reached the US Open round of 16 for the first time in his career. Although he has won 5 ATP titles, the South American has never played in a Grand Slam quarterfinal.

In the round of 16, F. Cerundolo’s opponent will unexpectedly be Belgian Alexander Blockx (ATP-34), who eliminated the world number six Flavio Cobolli (ATP-6) in the New York tournament – 6:7(4), 6:3, 6:0, 6:3.
The latter’s defeat means that the only remaining top ten player in the upper half of the draw is Alexander Zverev (ATP-2).
