C. Ruud reached one of his three career Grand Slam finals in New York, when in 2022 he lost to champion Carlos Alcaraz.
In this ATP season, the Norwegian has won 25 matches and lost 16. His place in the main draw will be taken by Frenchman Arthur Gea (ATP-87), who was given lucky loser status.
Before the start of the US Open, former winner of this tournament, Croatian Marin Čilić (ATP-81), also withdrew due to injury, and he will be replaced by Finnish Otto Virtanen (ATP-109).
