More than six decades ago, a Pablo Picasso painting loaned from the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum for an exhibition and later vanished without a trace has resurfaced. The museum has taken legal action to recover the artwork.

According to the art publication “Hyperallergic,” the Guggenheim Foundation filed a lawsuit this month with the New York State Supreme Court against Massachusetts residents Lawrence Jay Handler and Wendy Cohen Handler. The museum claims that the couple possesses a small painting titled “Femme dans un fauteuil” (“Woman in an Armchair”), painted in 1918, which disappeared from the University of Pittsburgh in 1961.
