Just one day after Carlos Alcaraz (ATP-2) announced his return to the ATP tour in New York, the US Open organizers received worse news – ATP ranking leader Jannik Sinner is withdrawing.

“Although we worked very hard with the team and medical staff, we have to make the difficult decision to withdraw from the tournament in New York. In recent days, I returned to the courts in Monte Carlo and realized that I need more time to recover from my right knee injury. I am extremely sad and disappointed because New York holds a very special place in my heart. I was looking forward to coming back here and playing again in such an electrifying atmosphere,” Sinner said.
The 25-year-old tennis player last officially played in mid-July at Wimbledon, where he won his fifth career Grand Slam trophy.
The Italian, who debuted in Grand Slam tournaments in 2019, will miss this category of championships for the first time in his career.

According to J. Sinner’s team, he will continue rehabilitation in Europe and prepare for the autumn tournaments in China – Beijing and Shanghai.
In the US Open competition, the first seed will go to Alexander Zverev, the second to C. Alcaraz, the third to Felix Auger-Aliassime, and the fourth spot is still contested by Novak Djokovic, Flavio Cobolli, and Taylor Fritz.
