Promised to compensate for damages

Vilnius Archbishop Metropolitan Gintaras Grušas states that T. Švedavičius, accused of sexual crimes, has promised the victims to compensate for the damages.

T. Švedavičius is charged with sexual abuse of boys, child exploitation for pornography, involving a child in drunkenness, molestation of persons under 16 years old, satisfying sexual desire violating the minor’s freedom of sexual self-determination, and possession of pornographic materials depicting children.

He has been subjected to preventive measures – a written promise not to leave and confiscation of documents.

According to law enforcement data, 34 criminal episodes have been recorded. The crimes were committed over 23 years – from 2002 to 2025. The case has been transferred to the Vilnius Regional Court for trial, but the date of the first hearing has not yet been set.

Peciunas case – in September

Meanwhile, another court – Vilnius City District Court – has already set the date for the first hearing in the case of priest Ryšardas Peciunas, accused of possessing child pornography. The trial behind closed doors is scheduled to begin on September 17.

R. Peciunas is accused of possessing pornographic materials depicting a child or a person presented as a child. Such a crime is punishable by a fine, restriction of liberty, arrest, or imprisonment for up to four years.

The charge in the district court case has also been brought against R. Peciunas’s acquaintance Barbara Leščevska, who is not connected to the church. The latter priest has been subjected to a preventive measure – a written promise not to leave.
