Electric cars in Lithuania – a record number: what do drivers expect from charging?

Electric vehicles accounted for almost a quarter of all newly registered cars in July. As the number of electric vehicles grows and the charging network expands, drivers’ expectations for charging services also increase. “Ignitis ON” is implementing solutions that help reduce the number of actions required from the driver – from starting the charging to payment or receiving assistance.

“Customers today value not only the availability of charging stations – it is equally important how quickly charging can be started, payments made, or help received. Therefore, we continuously invest in solutions that allow electric vehicle drivers not to waste time entering payment details or registering,” says Eimantas Balta, head of the leading fast electric vehicle charging network “Ignitis ON”.

Payment you don’t have to think about

Drivers expect fast payment with as few additional steps as possible. Taking this need into account, “Ignitis ON” has implemented “Apple Pay” and “Google Pay” payment methods in its app.

Customers no longer need to manually enter card details – it is enough to select a saved payment card on the phone and confirm the payment. Currently, customers can start charging even without registering in the app, while registered users can use additional features and automated solutions. Physical payment terminals have already been installed at some “Ignitis ON” network locations, and by the end of the year, they are planned to be installed throughout almost the entire network. This way, customers can choose the most convenient payment method for them – the app, “Apple Pay”, “Google Pay”, or a payment card.

Fewer steps to start charging

It is important for electric vehicle drivers to start charging as quickly as possible and not waste time on additional actions at the station. This is exactly what the automatic electric vehicle charging function (autocharge) is designed for.

This function allows charging to start without additional actions in the app: once activated and the electric vehicle linked to the “Ignitis ON” account, the station recognizes the vehicle itself the next time. Then, for an electric vehicle supporting this function, it is enough to connect the CCS charging plug – charging starts automatically, so the driver no longer needs to use the app or perform additional actions at the station each time.

For drivers who plan trips in advance, it is important to know that they will not have to wait upon arrival at the station. Therefore, customers can reserve a high-power charging (HPC) plug in advance and be assured that it will be available when they arrive at the station. This service is especially relevant for business customers who precisely plan routes and time.

Assistance – anytime

It is important for customers to get answers to their questions quickly and at a convenient time. The “Ignitis ON” website already features a virtual assistant (chatbot) for customers, and it will soon be integrated into the mobile app as well.

This solution allows customers to find answers to frequently asked questions faster and get the necessary help at any time of day. The virtual assistant can answer questions about pricing, payments, or the charging process, as well as help with using the “Ignitis ON” app. If individual assistance is needed to resolve a question, the user will be directed to a customer service specialist.
