It is reported that the vehicle was driving on the opposite side of the road and collided with F. Tarling, who was riding behind the main peloton.
The cyclist was immediately given medical assistance, but shortly after the collision he died.

Portuguese President Antonio José Seguro said that Tarling’s death “saddened the peloton, the race, and the host country.”
“Fina was very much loved by our entire team, but most importantly – he was a son, a brother, and a friend to many people. He will be greatly missed.
We express our deepest condolences to Fina’s parents Michael and Dawn, his brother Josh, and everyone who was lucky enough to call Fina their friend,” wrote F. Tarling’s team “NSN Development.”
