As reported by the Police Department, on August 13, a woman born in 1948 contacted the Kaunas County Chief Police Commissariat.

She told officers that on May 18, around 11 a.m., while at home in Kaunas, she received a call from unknown persons speaking Russian. The callers introduced themselves as representatives of a foreign company.
The scammers convinced the woman that in order to withdraw her supposed investment units, she needed to sell her apartment. Believing their story, the Kaunas resident sold the apartment, and the criminals fraudulently extorted 92 thousand euros from her.
A pre-trial investigation for fraud has been initiated regarding the incident.
