The shortest Lithuanian athlete will seek a historic record: "I want to be the first of this kind in the country"

23-year-old Edvinas Vaičiulis is a dedicated athlete from Klaipėda. Having been active in sports since childhood, he took a liking to cycling and athletics. At the age of 12–13, he already got on his first bike.

His love for this sport has not faded to this day, and his goals continue to grow.

Among his personal achievements, E. Vaičiulis has already checked off an important milestone. In 2024, the cyclist rode around Lithuania and covered 1186.77 km in a 9-day journey.

However, he is not just a cyclist – E. Vaičiulis is a virtuoso in athletics. In the 2023 European Deaf Athletics Championships, he won bronze.

In 2025, he represented Lithuania at the Deaflympics. He placed 12th in the 1500 m run.

In addition to these achievements, he has set another challenge for himself. He will pedal a bike for a full 24 hours, supported by a team of four people. Throughout the journey, E. Vaičiulis will be protected from mishaps, his food will be transported, and assistance will be provided if needed. Of course, it will also be documented.

During this time, the athlete hopes to cover a distance of 400–600 km and become the first in Lithuania to pedal a bike continuously for 24 hours.

“I want to test my physical and psychological limits. I also want to show that persistence and hard work allow you to achieve even very difficult goals,” E. Vaičiulis told 15min. “My goal is to become the first deaf person in Lithuania to successfully complete a 24-hour cycling challenge. I want to prove to myself that I can do it.”
