Residents were given four years to submit documents. During this entire period, the Lithuanian Geological Survey received 22,431 applications, submitted under the temporary well legalization procedure. Of these, 8,540 were submitted during the additionally granted years.

As of July 31, 5,892 previously unregistered wells were registered in the Subsoil Register. About 2.2 thousand applications were returned to applicants for correction due to identified errors, and 14,330 are still waiting in line to be checked.
The flow of applications increased especially as the final deadline approached. In April, the Lithuanian Geological Survey received 108–166 applications and requests per week, and in May, excluding the short holiday period, 156–222. In June, the weekly number increased to 219–320, and in July the growth accelerated further: 416 applications and requests were received from July 6–12, 595 from July 13–19, and 878 from July 20–26.
In just the last five days – July 27–31 – the service received 2,012. This exceeded more than nine times the highest number of applications and requests received in one week in May.

Considering such increased workloads, the legalization of unregistered wells has become one of the biggest organizational challenges for the Lithuanian Geological Survey in the past decade. Specialists must check more than 14 thousand applications and requests waiting in line, evaluate the submitted data, clarify them if necessary, register wells, and prepare their passports. At the same time, the service continuously carries out other tasks unrelated to well legalization.
All applications and necessary documents submitted to the Lithuanian Geological Survey by July 31, 2026, inclusive, will be reviewed. The well did not have to be registered in the Subsoil Register by this date – it is important that the service received the application and all necessary documents by the set deadline. If it is necessary to clarify information or provide additional data during the application review, specialists from the Lithuanian Geological Survey will contact the applicant using the contacts provided in the application.
