Almost all of Poland on Saturday issued warnings of extreme heat and severe storms. Meteorologists predict that air temperatures will rise to 37 degrees in some places, and wind gusts may reach up to 110 km/h.

The Polish Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW) issued first and second level storm warnings across almost the entire country. Exceptions apply only to the southeastern and northwestern edges. Meanwhile, heat warnings apply to about half of Poland’s territory.
Poland uses a three-level warning system, where the third level (red) warning is the highest.
In the second level warning zones, very heavy rain is forecast – between 25 and 40 mm of precipitation may fall in a short time, and in some places about 50 mm.
Strong wind gusts are also expected – up to 95 km/h, and in some places they may strengthen to about 110 km/h. Additionally, hail is likely.

Highest level heat warning
Third level heat warnings have been issued in the eastern part of the Lublin Voivodeship, the southeastern part of the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, as well as in some areas of the Mazovia, Lesser Poland (Małopolskie), and Subcarpathian (Podkarpackie) voivodeships.
In these areas, daytime air temperatures will reach from 30 to 37 degrees, and at night will not drop below 23 degrees.
Storm warnings will be in effect until Saturday evening or early Sunday, while some heat warnings in southern and southeastern Poland will remain in effect until Wednesday.
These warnings were issued after a record temperature of 40.5 degrees was recorded on June 28 in the western Polish city of Słubice. This broke the country’s heat record that had stood for 105 years. Meanwhile, France, Spain, and Greece are also battling large forest fires this summer, driven by extreme heat, drought, and strong winds.
