It is written in the Facebook group “What’s happening in Marijampolė” that the businessman from Marijampolė died on May 25.
“He left unexpectedly, suddenly, leaving planned work and us, relatives, colleagues, and comrades-in-arms, struck and depressed by the painful loss,” it says in this group.
It is stated that Alvydas Pridotkas was born on April 28, 1946, in Vilkaviškis district. Having obtained a secondary education and feeling that he had a knack for trade and business, Alvydas sought knowledge by studying at the Moscow Cooperation Institute, which he graduated from in 1974.
It is also written that in May 1970 Alvydas started a family – he married Rene Pridotkienė. They had and raised twin sons Saulius and Giedrius, and now enjoyed three grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.
“A. Pridotkas worked in trade all his life. In 1986, he was appointed chairman of the board of the then Kapsukas city consumer cooperative of the Lithuanian Consumers’ Cooperative Union and led all the trade enterprises of Kapsukas at that time, and later Marijampolė city, as well as the later established UAB ‘Marijampolės prekyba’. Due to successful work, he earned the trust of traders across the country and was elected chairman of the board of the Cooperative company Lithuanian Cooperative Union. A. Pridotkas held these positions until his death,” it says in this group.

It is also noted that in December 2024, welcoming 2025, at a festive event, A. Pridotkas, as chairman of the board of the Cooperative company Lithuanian Cooperative Union, gave a memorable greeting speech and was honored by guests. Presidential advisor Vaidas Augustinavičius conveyed the greetings of President Gitanas Nausėda to him: “<…> Your ambitions, which do not fit into Lithuanian scales and strengthen the country’s positions in international cooperation alliances, increase Lithuania’s recognition and business opportunities,” said the president.
It is stated that A. Pridotkas’s activities were also appreciated by the Lithuanian Confederation of Industrialists (LPK). LPK president Vidmantas Janulevičius on January 9, 2025, at the solemn annual confederation event, presented Alvydas Pridotkas with the Vytautas Andrius Graičiūnas nomination-award “For long-term contribution to the development and strengthening of Lithuanian business, for more than five decades of consistently nurturing management culture and successful management of the Lithuanian Cooperative Union, for personal dedication and outstanding achievements leading UAB ‘Marijampolės prekyba’ and other initiatives contributing to national economic development and continuity of cooperative traditions.”
It is also written that Alvydas was a hunter, longtime chairman of the “Amalva” hunters’ club. For merits to hunting, the hunting community, hunting culture, and traditions, he was awarded the Suduva Hunters’ Union medal “Honorary Hunter,” and for merits to Lithuania, Suduva, and hunting on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Lithuania – the Suduva Hunters’ Union Republic of Lithuania Centennial Cross. These awards are now in the Marijampolė funeral home “Stopped Time” (Vokiečių St. 3), in the hall where the urn is laid out.
