In the girls’ (under 22) final, Gustė Pečiulytė and Martina Rutkauskaitė took 15th and 17th places respectively.
The stands were full at the Valdas Adamkus Athletics Arena supporting L. Valeika – the Lithuanian scored the maximum possible points – 250 – in the fencing elimination event.
However, a small mistake in the obstacle course prevented him from staying among the leaders in this event as well – he was 9th.
The Lithuanian representative in swimming took 16th place, and before the running and shooting event, he was in 6th position overall.
Having given a lot of effort in yesterday’s semifinal, L. Valeika fought with all his might in the last event and finished 11th (1528 points).
“I am happy, I did not expect to take such a place. I knew I was not the strongest in the running and shooting event, so I tried to score as many points as possible in the other events. I am very glad that I won the fencing. I gave my all in this competition,” said L. Valeika after the finish.
The world champion was Italian Mateo Bovenzi (1608 pts), silver went to Ukrainian Danylo Sych (1596 pts), and bronze to Mohamed Hassan (1589 pts).

Summing up the results, Ukraine took first place in the team standings, Egypt second, and the Czech Republic third. The Lithuanian team was 9th.
Two Lithuanian representatives competed in the girls’ final – seventeen-year-old Gustė Pečiulytė and nineteen-year-old Martina Rutkauskaitė.
In the fencing elimination event, the Lithuanians took 17th and 18th places respectively, in the obstacle course – 11th and 17th, the former swimmers were among the leaders in swimming – 1st and 7th places, and in the last running and shooting event, they started from 10th and 16th positions respectively. The young pentathletes crossed the finish line in 15th and 17th (1398 and 1396 points).
“I didn’t even make it to the final at the European Youth Championship, so I highly value this achievement in Kaunas. I was most pleased with the obstacle course event, a bit disappointed with the fencing event, but I hope to continue improving,” evaluated G. Pečiulytė.
The world champion title was won by Polish representative Malgorzata Karbownik (1473 pts), the runner-up was Swiss Katharina Jurt (1465 pts), and bronze went to Egyptian Ganah Elgindy (1463 pts).
In the team standings, Switzerland won, Egypt took second place, and Hungary third. Lithuanian pentathletes took 6th place.
In the last final of the day, Rokas Sungaila and Dominykas Banys took 30th and 31st places respectively in the youth (under 17) competition.
